Fried Mars Bar - Edinburgh, Scotland

It's not pretty, but it's good!

Scotland is known for some interesting food such as haggis and black pudding but seeing as Eddie is a vegetarian and I am quite a picky eater, the only Scottish delicacy we decided to try was the deep fried (or battered) Mars bar. It was so much better than I expected and I didn't feel like I was going to have a heart attack while eating it! Although it is battered before frying you can hardly taste the batter and basically you are just eating a warm, gooey Mars bar, which to me was quite a good thing! We bought ours from a chippy shop (Clam Shell Fish and Chip Shop on the Royal Mile) and they used an entire Mars bar which we shared. I think it would be great to use the fun size bars instead, then you can get a fix of it but don't have to eat an entire fried chocolate bar.

So, if you like fried foods and you like Mars Bars (or melted chocolate and melted caramel) then you should definitely try a deep fried Mars Bar whenever you get the chance! Bon Appetit!

(Another item on the menu at the place was "fried pizza." We decided to stay away from that one!)
